May I say that if you are not worried
about the receiver coverage suffering from the original range you will find
the performance of the receiver will really be enhanced if you bandspread
the tuning. It becomes really good to use like this and pulls in signals
with ease. This is done by using roughly 20pF to tune the 80m band. To do
this means a little more fixed capacity across a coil of fewer turns. However
the rx performance is really enhanced.
Your chirp could be down to a dirty
crystal....but if most crystals do this try a gimmick capacitor from anode
to grid1 if you use a circuit without an rfc in the cathode. If you do use
the later circuit where a cathode rfc is used then try a gimmick capacitor
from g1 to cathode. The rig should not really chirp and most times does
not...although some operators listening for a paraset can pick them out!.
